Maryland Has Two Types of Antique Tags:
Historic and Street Rod |

Historic Tags
1. Vehicle is not substantially altered, remodeled, or remanufactured from its original design and is at least 20 years of age (2004 and older)
2. The vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours, and occasional transportation. The vehicle may not be used to general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways, for employment, for transportation to and from employment or school, or for commercial purposes.
3. Permanent Historic registration can be issued if the vehicle is 60 years and older, a one-time fee applies.

Street Rod Tags
1. Vehicle has been substantially altered from the original condition and is at least 25 years of age (1999 and older).
2. The vehicle will be maintained for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, tours and occasional transportation. the vehicle may not be used for general daily transportation or primarily for the transportation of passengers or property on highways, for employment, for transportation to and from employment or school, or for commercial purposes.
Historic And Street Rod Vehicles Avoid The Following:
1. Maryland Safety Inspection
2. Emission Test (VEIP)
Obtaining Historic or Street Rod Tags With A Title Transfer:
1. Must meet the criteria to be classed as a Historic or a Street Rod vehicle.

Obtaining Historic Or Street Rod Tags After A Title Transfer:
1. Must meet the criteria to be classed as a Historic or Street Rod vehicle.
2. You will need the title, driver's license, and insurance |
Vintage Tags
You must meet the following criteria to display Vintage Tags:
1. The vehicle must be classed as a Historic and you purchase the Historic tags.
2. Or the vehicle is classed as a Street Rod and you purchase the Street Rod tags.
3. Your vintage tag(s) must be Maryland issued.
4. Your vintage tag(s) must be the same year as your vehicle.
5. You must have the same number of tag(s) that were issued in that year.
6. Your vintage tag(s) must be the same color as the year they were issued. |
